How do I find my Perfect Pram?
Buying your first pram can be overwhelming and feel like a massive decision. And you wouldn't be wrong feeling this way. Choices are unlimited and the pricing disparity is often big!
So where do I start?
3 wheel, 4 wheel, compact, travel or jogger? Are you a designer pram family, or eco consciously minded when it comes to the materials used to transport your precious cargo? Do you like to test drive before you buy or do you buy solely on reviews?
This is with out a doubt an expensive purchase and we are here to help you avoid making the same mistakes we made the first (and second, if we are being honest) time round as new parents.
I often start with "How are you going to be using this pram"? Are you the city mum that loves browsing the shops and meeting other mama friends in a comfy air conditioned shopping centre? Or are you the adventure mama who like to go for walks along the beach, camping over long weekends and possibly chasing your active first born through parks in the afternoons? Perhaps you are the family fitness enthusiast and love long runs? How you plan on using your stroller will strongly influence the choice you make.
The fold!
This one was a deal breaker for me. After my first time around with a designer label pram that cost nearly as much as a months mortgage repayment I was done with pulling the stroller seat off the frame and then fighting the stupid thing to collapse. Never mind it took up a LOT of room in the boot of my wagon. Simplicity works - being able to fold in one piece without breaking your back when it comes time to lift into your vehicle should play a big part in your decision. Anything over 10kg is going to wear you down over time and it is going to be way too heavy for Grandma to manage when helping out.
To Travel System or not to Travel System?
We found the travel system compatibility of our strollers a god send - especially when number 2 and number 3 came along. Being able to "click" that capsule onto our stroller meant no nap time disturbances when sleep time clashed with school pick-ups or that real quick dash to the shops to get nappies and wipes. Travel Systems are usually a little more pricey than your regular convertible car seats but the cost vs benefits can be worth it. Food for thought!
Do I need a bassinet?
This one is purely parental preference. We used a bassinet for all three of our children but it is certainly a luxury not a necessity. Most prams come "infant ready" and are suitable from birth. My hot tip, wait until your little love arrives and see how you go. You may just save yourself the extra $$!
We have tried and tested countless prams over the last 8 years. Recommendations from friends, the latest market trends, the stroller that looked the most appealing.... Good chance I have tried it!
